Taste of Town Line Lutheran
A chilly April Sunday saw people flocking to Town Line Lutheran Church to taste an amazing variety of fantastic dishes cooked up by talented members of the congregation. From a record 31 entries, attendees voted for their favorite appetizers, side dishes, entrees and desserts. Three celebrity judges, new this year, also each chose a winning dish for the “Judges’ Awards.” A giant raffle of prizes generously given by local businesses and individuals added to the fun. When the dishes were emptied, the votes were tallied and prizes awarded in each category. Most importantly, the event raised $1,166 for Hearts and Hands: Faith in Action, a local organization dedicated to matching volunteers with seniors and others in the community needing assistance with anything from a ride to a doctor’s appointment to light chores to a friendly voice on the phone.
The winning entries, as selected by votes cast, were:
Appetizers: First place, Toni Bleimeister’ Fruit Salsa, with Tom and Jeannette Dickinson’s Code Blue Dip second. Best side dish was Broccoli Salad, made by Marcus Appleby, and 2nd place Diane Wassinger with German Potato Salad. The favorite entree came from the Lee family, presenting Clam Chowder on a cold afternoon, closely trailed by Ghoulish Goulash with Kluski Noodles cooked up by Cheryl Wild. Finally, so many great desserts required three prizes, with top billing going to Heidi Wild’s Carrot Cake with Nuts, second for Bread Pudding from Molly Bauer and Erin Bleimeister’s Crème Brulee coming in third.
The judges gave awards as well. The Mayor chose Cheesy Ham Casserole from Jenny Pawelski. Ellie DeFilippo won the Hearts and Hands nod for Scalloped Potatoes and Ham. Althea Green’s Cherry Cream Pie drew cheers from the Chef.
